Art is everywhere, just waiting to be confined to a rectangle and presented on a page. My job as an artist, is to recognize a painting before it exists.
I paint contemporary realistic oil paintings. I am inspired by unusual subjects and juxtapositions. I find beauty in ordinary people who are not typically the subject of a portrait. My paintings tell a story–a moment in time, friendship, solitude, resilience, longing, inspiration–a small slice of reality.
My hope is that my art conveys a sense of mystery about the life of the subject, causing one to contemplate what he or she was thinking in that moment.
When painting portraits, I work from photographs. I prefer to have numerous shots from a variety of angles. I welcome nontraditional as well as traditional subjects.
